Emergency Restoration Services

Emergency Services

Whatever causes the disaster, fire-flood-wind, we know that an even greater loss can result from delay.
Not only to the property, but to your wallet also. Most, if not all, Insurance Policies state it is up to the property owner to secure the property from further damage once the initial disaster is over. Failure to do so can result in you having to pay for any additional damages. That is why G.S. Jones is available 24/7 to provide emergency restoration services in Swissvale.

5 Steps to Choosing a Restoration Company

Having to hire a restoration company isn’t something people do every day. It can feel daunting to find a company you trust to come into your home after a traumatic event like a flood or fire. Do you trust them to put your home (and to some degree your life) back together again? Do you trust them with the contents of your home? Do you trust that they will respect your property? There are so many questions running through the minds of everyone in who has ever had to hire a restoration company. So while the team at GS Jones hopes you choose us to restore your Swissvale property, we also want to be a resource to help you find the best fit for you and your family – even if that isn’t us.

Here are five factors to consider when looking for a restoration company:

Read customer testimonials.

Today, you can find reviews and feedback on companies all over the internet. Look on the contractor’s website, Facebook, Google, Yelp, and so on to see what people have to say about the company’s services – AND how the company responds to the feedback! Of course, you sometimes need to take social media feedback with a grain of salt, but if you see a trend of negative or positive feedback, that should give you a pretty solid idea about how the company works.

Get referrals.

Word of mouth is a big way many contractors are able to grow into big businesses in local communities. It is a tried and true marketing technique. So ask around at work, church, yoga class, etc. to see if anyone you know has experience with a local contractor – and what they have to say about them, good or bad.

Ask Hard Questions.

The very best way weed out the bad apples is to know how to interview and choose the right company for the job. You cannot be afraid to ask hard questions or walk away from a company that you just do not feel right about.

Be sure they’re by the book, not by “what everyone else does.”

Permits are not optional. Doing a home improvement or restoration project without the right permits can violate local ordinances and open you up to fines and a heap of trouble! Legitimate contractors are easily able to get the right permits from the right entities because they work with the organizations every single day. Also, ask for proof of liability insurance – and be sure any subcontractors hired by the restoration company are also insured. While you may not be liable for damages the contractor’s cause, it will certainly increase a headache and prolong the work if they aren’t insured.

Trust your instincts and gut reaction/feeling about the contractor and company.

You should be innately comfortable with the crew working in your home from the person doing estimates of the damage to the tech sucking water out of the carpet or tearing out drywall – and everyone in between. It is stressful enough when disaster strikes your home or business without also worrying about the company doing the restoration work. Keep your gut feeling in mind, too, when you’re looking at quotes from different companies. If one is extremely low or exorbitantly high, you might want to take a closer look at the companies – or start asking hard questions, like we talked about above.

Helping Pittsburg Hospitals Prepare for Disasters

Disaster can strike at any time. While there might be warning about severe spring storms, the remnants of a hurricane, or a massive snow storm, there are so many other things that can put a hospital into internal emergency mode every single day. Think about electrical or cafeteria fires, burst pipes, and floods, or an unfortunate act of violence. Any of those events can trigger a hospital’s emergency protocols, and among them should be calling in a trusted contractor to help to get the ball rolling to repair the problem immediately, with as little an impact on the hospital and its day-to-day operations as possible.

G.S. Jones has been doing restoration work in homes and businesses in the Pittsburgh area for more than 30 years. Today, the company doesn’t just offer help after the disaster, it is helping businesses everywhere be prepared for the worst. That includes hospitals! In 2015, we did work at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburghm,   UPMC, and have worked with many other educational, governmental, religious organizations as their restoration contractor of choice.

Disaster Plan Creation

Having a disaster plan in place with G.S. Jones means we already know your hospital and your specific needs. It means we have an ongoing relationship with hospital leadership and can be at your location very quickly in the event of a disaster that requires a restoration contractor. By having a plan in place, you are not only protecting your patients, you are also protecting your entire team – and your facility itself.

It is also worth noting that G.S. Jones can help you explore ways to prevent disasters and reduce risks within the hospital. While we aren’t healthcare experts, we are building and environment experts who are highly trained and experienced in identifying potential problem areas.

When we create a plan with you, we want to understand what the hospital does in the case of a disaster of any kind – be it big or small. By better understanding your protocols, we can better help you as it is all playing out by responding in appropriate ways, staying out of the way of critical healthcare areas, and quickly containing areas where a risk to the public may exist.
This plan won’t just sit stagnant on a shelf until something happens. It can be updated often, and you can rest assured that our team won’t suddenly become strangers to you and your needs.

Importance of Experience

Plus, you don’t want to hire a contractor to work in a hospital setting with no experience working in a healthcare setting, or that is unaware of how to contain and mitigate a problem.
Ready.gov suggests every business – no matter the sector – have an emergency plan in place. We are sure you have an emergency plan in place when it comes to your patient and your employees. But once they’re taken care of, who is taking care of you and the hospital itself?

While you’re here on our website, please take a moment to look at the many Letters of Recommendation from fellow businesses in the Pittsburgh area. G.S. Jones has a plethora of experience when it comes to disaster response for businesses big and small, and we hope to be here to help you in the future, too.
